As a part of the awareness exercise on trauma care, experts of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre have designed a basic life support course for children. And according to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) sources, the course is expec ted to be incorporated in all the CBSE affiliated schools across the country from the 2010-11 academic session. The course is expected to be incorporates in the curriculum of classes VII to XII.
The centre has been holding series of training sessions since past several months on the topic in various medical institutes across the country. The last being the one held at the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, where a batch of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff was trained in emergency care.
The module prepared for students and teachers will train them in basic life-support techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to stop bleeding, to handle windpipe chocking or drowning or electrocution, to safely transport accident victim to the nearest hospital with minimum damage, among others. The course has been designed in its most simplified form with minimal medical jargon. While the final touches are being giving to the content, the final approval is lying with the ministry of human resource and development.
